In other news, I watch too many panel shows...

I love having Rob Brydon as the host of Would I Lie to You (Rob Brydon and David Mitchell on my screen at the same time? AWESOME!), but I have to admit I spend an episode imagining the behind-the-scenes scenes, a la Annually Retentive. I just watched the scene where he did the foxtrot and then had a whole moment where I envisaged the conversation between him and 'his producer' Ben (as played by Russell Tovey.) It's complete cognitive dissonance and it wigs me out.

We don't have many panel shows here in the US anymore because Americans don't have a sense of humor about themselves. I loved watching them when I was in the UK.

I didn't know this style of panel show was ever a thing in America?!

When the American version of Who's Line Is It Anyway was a hit they tried it because they are cheap to make. It didn't work. If I step into the way back machine, they were more common on the cable networks in the 80's because once again, very cheap to make.

Though it is very possible that the definition gets lost in translation to what I consider panel shows.

Over here in Oz, 'panel shows' means something else entirely again (it's more of a discussion show format, like The View.)

But I really like shows like Mock the Week, QI, Would I Lie to You, Have I Got News For You --- half an hour of jokey fun, with a little bit of news/trivia.

ooh ooh!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE those UK panel shows--Mock the Week became my fave show ever (well, Psych doesn't count, it's acting rather than real people talking as themselves) when I was in the UK a couple years ago and now I youtube Would I Lie to You and MtW--I didn't know a new season of WILtY was on though! And the new host! Can't wait to see him--I didn't hate Angus but I didn't love him either. David Mitchell--SO funny. I love when he and Lee really go at each other, always a good time. :D Also--I love Michael McIntyre and hope they have him on some time!

I am going to have to check out Have I Got News for You!! Thank god for youtube or else I would be utterly sad at not having great shows like these--I seriously feel like the best shows are on BBC (again, except for Psych). Alas, BBC America is fairly sucktacular.

Rob Brydon is so freaking adorable. I wholeheartedly enjoy him in everything.

I have a broad range of favourite shows, but panel shows fill that half an hour of much-needed no-brain-needed entertainment.
