Sometimes it's okay to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.
I'm not tagging anyone. Do it if you want. Don't do it if you don't want.
A Solitary Man [Life on Mars, Sam/Gene, PG-13]
I understood Sam's decision to jump in 2.08, but I always wish we'd been given more of an indicator of the reasons why in the show. I also hate the idea that Sam went back to a fantasy world. People commented that they liked that this wasn't very angsty, and I was reminded how different tones and readings can make a huge impact on how you interpret a text. I thought this was fairly angsty, in a quiet, stomach-clenching kind of way. I often think my idea of 'angst' is different from other people's.
Alex in Wonderland [Ashes to Ashes, mostly gen with dashes of Alex/Gene, PG]
I wrote this before the show aired. I am so disappointed the writers have never had Gene call Alex boys' names. When I wrote this, I was deliberately using as many female/feminine role tropes as possible - mother, cute klutz, ambitious career woman, jezebel/femme fatale, tomboy, girly girl, as a sort of example of all the ways Alex could go right, and all of the ways she could go wrong. A few of these put together, with some backstory and reaction and we have a rounded character. Pick only one and you get a cardboard cut-out. At the time, this was the nastiest I had ever written Gene. He's a total prick in this story; he's a Gene who never knew Sam and therefore, in some ways, he's a slightly different character.
Erotophonophilia [Wire in the Blood, Carol/Tony, NC-17]
This is a very stylised piece, but it works for what I was trying to achieve --- a slightly unconventional story about a slightly unconventional relationship. I love Carol and Tony's interaction in the show, and I worked hard to try and capture that, whilst turning it overtly sexual. I didn't know at the time that Tony is impotent in the books, so I was pleasantly surprised when draycevixen informed me this was the case. I've since read two of the books and was really surprised by how much I got right.
Cheer Up, You Miserable Fuck [Hot Fuzz, Nicholas/Danny, PG-13]
The way Nicholas reacts to Danny suggests he's never had a friend, so I thought I'd explore that. I always think of Danny as being very calm and patient with Nicholas. He ebbs away at his outer shell over time and gets to know him. I've said that I don't really ship them, but apart from one story, everything I've written for Hot Fuzz has been Nicholas/Danny.
Your Code Name is Babalu [Psych, Shawn/Lassiter, PG]
It's a Psych 'Choose Your Own Adventure' with references to Poirot and Spaced. It has a happy ending (unless you accidentally follow the not-so-happy path.) Shawn's voice amuses me and it was ridiculously fun to write for that very reason. It's also quite crackalicious.
