The fuck are they on? Really? Jesus.
I'm not saying The Street isn't good, because, yes - it really is. Awfully good. It's created by Jimmy McGovern, which should really indicate something. It's the type of thing John Simm would ordinarily be in and I imagine many scenarios during filming LoM where John found it all too much and got grumbly and angsty that he'd chosen to do this weird little genre show when he could have been doing a one-off episode for McGovern. (I do not know if JS was ever offered a part in The Street, but I think he probably would have been, and we already know he was a bit miserable during filming LoM.)
Life on Mars was great television. It was! It was, for the most part, brilliantly written. It was, almost always, brilliantly acted. And when I say "brilliantly acted", I mean "this calibre of acting has rarely been seen before." It looked and sounded amazing. It made an audience feel. How is that not award worthy? It wasn't like it was just an enjoyable puff-piece. We had real issues being confronted there. Real questions that made you think. We just also happened to have the bonus of car chases!
