Notes: Sam/Gene slash. Ducky isn't feeling well and I wanted to cheer her up, so I wrote this. Also, it's apparently Valentine's Day. And there you were, thinking you'd got rid of me. I'm so sorry.
Something had to be done. Sam wouldn't stop coughing, he wouldn't stop wheezing, Gene knew that drastic measures had to be taken.
"I made you some honey and lemon."
Sam winced at him, bleary-eyed. "You did? That's oddly… sweet."
Gene knelt down and put the cup to Sam's lips. "Tart too, just like you. Drink up, there's a good lad."
Sam tilted his head back, a bead of sweat running down his neck; he was running a fever, no doubt about it. He closed his eyes, looking content for a moment before another great, hacking cough started up again. Gene held onto him as his body wracked from the force.
"Jesus, Tyler, I've seen healthier specimens of Dodo."
"I must have an infection," Sam stuttered out between gasps.
"Best to take you to a quack, then?"
"No, I don't mean here, I mean at the hospital."
Gene frowned. "What do you… ?"
"In the future."
"Right, and here I was hoping calamity and disease would make you sane." Gene propped Sam up and adjusted his position so that he was lying in the crook of Gene's arm. He let his hand brush through Sam's hair. "There's only one thing for it, I'll have to stay the night."
"I'm not up for any of your 'male bonding', Gene."
Gene snorted. "I wasn't planning on providing any."
Sam coughed again, his nose streaming. "So what, cuddles?"
"I'd prefer to call it physical and emotional support."
"A typical DCI action in taking care of his team."
"Soft, poncy, touchy-feely lurve-making?"
"A royal bollocking if you don't shut it and let the Gene Genie work his magic."
