Of course it's good, Matt's a good writer. It's written for a non-fandom audience, so it has to use full names and description most fic writers wouldn't bother with. He doesn't hyphenate Sammy-boy, which I find weird. (Hee!) His voices are great! (I AM SO JOKING AT ATTEMPTING CRITICISM OF MATTHEW'S VOICES OF HIS OWN CHARACTERS.)
BUT? MOST IMPORTANTLY? GENE CALLS SAM SAMANTHA. WHICH --- Matthew has so been reading fic and this makes me GLEEFUL.
There's alliteration! Puns!
"Guv, I would remind you this is tantamount to torture."
"Tantamount?! That's no good, I want it to be the real thing."
Those are the kind of exchanges I'd kill to be able to come up with. ♥
It's officially Christopher, not Christian, which makes me a little sad. Unless Gene just got it wrong, which, hey, he so could. (HE'S AN ELF. HAHAHAHA!) I find Chris incredibly endearing in this story.
Things that win ---
This line: This was DCI Father Christmas, on duty, undercover and ready to finger a mob of murderous diamond smugglers. HAHAHA!
This line: Annie shrugged. "We've got no choice now. Don't worry, I'll protect you." YAY!
It's love all over again, of course. I sort of desperately want to offer to be Matt's beta reader to get rid of errant commas and missing spaces --- oh, and Batman reference that Gene would not be making, but Sam probably would.
On the whole, YAY.
Except for the whole ending part. If this is in any way a set up for A2A, I will grab Matthew by the balls and create in him a Castrato.
Well you know what's going to happen now, don't you?!
