Post a list of your top five favourite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.
Here is a Wonder, if You Talk of a Wonder
Wilby Wonderful/Slings & Arrows, gen/het crossover fiction, G. Writing this story had a profound effect on me. It was the first thing I wrote that I thought was relatively good. It is based in these two tiny fandoms, so it was only ever going to appeal to a niche audience and I knew that, but wrote it anyway. And I'm so glad, because I still think it is one of the best things I have written in terms of it doing what I wanted it to do.
Give and Take
Life on Mars, het, Gene/The Missus, G. Wildly idealised look at Gene's homelife, and I know this, but the warm fuzzies are hard to control. As a story, it has a serious case of telling not showing, but I do not mind, because I love the idea and once again, it conveyed exactly what I wanted it to convey.
Qu'est-ce que c'est?
Life on Mars, gen, dark themes, PG-13. Sam as a serial killer. A lot of thinking and planning went into this. There were many scenarios I went through trying to think of how to present the idea and, in the end, I went with showing it from Chris's perspective for a feeling of simplicity to counteract the complexity of Sam's encroaching madness. There is a darkness in Sam.
With a Narrow-minded Wall
due South, gen. Ray K talking to himself, G. This could also be called "fun with formatting". One of the things I often think is that we have all of this ability to render text in interesting and innovative ways and we don't, we stick to convention. So, this was me, having fun with HTML as a device to show the fractured mentality Ray K has before he decides to go be Ray Vecchio for a while.
This I Know to be True
Life on Mars, slash, Sam/Gene, PG. Okay, this is brand new, so I'm still in that after-fic glow of pride, but this is so different from everything else I've written, yet obviously also not and I really like it for that. I started writing it at three o' clock in the morning, which appears to be my main inspiration time for stories.
I'm very tempted to tag people, but I think I'll let you tag yourselves.
