I went on the Old Adelaide Gaol Excursion sleepover with my Year 7s (and Erica's) from practicum last night.
If you have ever gone on camp with a bunch of 12-13 year old kids in the capacity of a supervisor you will know exactly how I am feeling right now. The worst part was that I had the dubious honour of being in the dormitory with the girls. No, I have not slept for over 24 hours. No, I have not had copious amounts of caffeiney goodness. Yes, why yes, I am Cranky McCranky Pants. So it was me, these four female teachers (who got rooms, I might add *grumble grumble*) and 30 boys and girls, with me in the girls dorm. Ugh.
It was interesting, the tour and everything, but I just don't believe in Capital Punishment, whatever the crime, so seeing where people were hanged depressed me more than anything. It wasn't thrilling for me like it was for some of the students. I do believe in Ghosts, and Adelaide Gaol is supposed to be haunted, but I saw nothing paranormal.
I need sleep.
P.S. You do not know the true horror of sleeping in a dorm with girls of that age until you hear them comparing the boys in the next dorm in terms of 'how hot they are'... and at 4am, actually decide which you think should win yourself.
