OMFG.
The house behind me has the same number as me, but is number+A.
My neighbours just came round to tell me that they've been receiving some of my mail (not all of it, because I got the gas bill the other day, haaaah. Odd that a
bill would make it to me. I did wonder why I didn't get an update from World Vision, though.) They've called by a couple times, but I've always been at work. They knew I was home this time because I was listening to music loudly enough (which also meant I almost didn't answer the door.)
Getting this mail made me realise that the postal service hasn't been as lackadaisical as I assumed (no. just ridiculously unable to tell that if there's no letter, it goes in the mailbox that has no letter.)
There's a whole stack of thank yous I owe people. Thanks so much to
jillwise,
thesmallhobbit,
basaltgrrl and
solanpolarn. Reading your letters & cards and seeing your pictures just then was wonderful ♥. I'll see if I can get something in the mail for you all --- and sorry to anyone else I owe, the last month has been craziness, but I am planning on sending something!
... now how do I solve the stupid mail problem? Ugh. Maybe I'll just look in number+A's mailbox as well as mine and hope they continue to pop round if they get to it before me? I haven't had any of theirs, far as I can make out, though I do get a shit-tonne of mail from previous owners of this house.
Good luck sorting out the post situation! If your postal service is anything like Canada Post here in Canada, you may have your work cut out for you.....
And... oh damn. I meant to sign up to send you a housewarming letter, but missed out. And now your house is all warm, I suppose? Still, if you're hankering for a really cheesy RCMP postcard, or one with bears or moose, or both, I am your woman.
We've had an annoying spate of stuff being mis-delivered too; our house number is 2, but we frequently find things being delivered either to number 1 or number 21. The logic of this (if there is any) escapes us completely.
I second this suggestion! I live at Flat 5 at House Name on Street Name, and frequently get post for 5 Street Name or for Flat 5 Different House Name among other things. It is quite annoying because I constantly worry that some of my mail will be going elsewhere an possibly nobody bothers to either put it through our letter box or give it back to the postie. I usually make sure to do either of those, when mail for other places arrive.
But I will, when I can get down the post office! It'll be horribly out of date, but it'll get there eventually!!!
That might help with the previous occupant stuff too. Or not. 12 years on, we still get a few addressed to the previous occupant. I stopped her catalogs with phone calls, but a couple of organizations she supported with donations haven't given up yet.
And hopefully the folks in +A have figured out who you are now and won't assume they are getting a prior occupants mail. Is it possible for them to stick the mail in your box or does it take a key or something? Sounds like not, if you are able to look in their box. . . just agree to redeliver mix-ups?
Thank you!
