Living Loz
Eeeeee, I guess not...

Ben Browder (Feels Angst)
Was about this close to buying a kindle when it turns out living in Australia means I can't buy the one I want, even though I could get a power adapter. The basic model I wasn't so interested in is also $20 dearer for Australia than America, despite the fact there's no way the exchange rate is that steep anymore.

Okay then. Seems like someone's trying to tell me to stick to my netbook for now. I can do that.

Honestly, this is not the first time I've wondered about Amazon's lack of regard or outright hatred for the Australian market. There's a reason I started buying my books at the book depository instead.

I've heard similar complaints about Amazon from Canadian mates.

It is really frustrating. I just wanted a kindle paperwhite, dammit. Why aren't I allowed shiny things?

I've never been able to decide if an ebook is better for me or not. On one hand: fanfiction is suddenly portable and I can read it sneakily on the train or in the car, even more so now with ao3. On the other hand: I love books too much to never buy another again.

Have you looked into the Kobo e-readers? They look quite nice, but I don't know if they're available in Australia.

I've got a Kobo, but wouldn't recomment it - in fact I'm about to pass mine to my OH and get myself something different. Every time Kobo does an update on the computer my Kobo e-reader refuses to "talk" to it. Last time we had to uninstall and then re-install and all I wanted to do was charge the e-reader.

Thank you, this was my brother's girlfriend's experience too!

My brother's girlfriend had a kobo and it hasn't lasted very long. She's not so keen on it.

I love actual books too, though I don't read as much as I should anyway.

It's not quite so bad here in Canada but close! My sister can't understand why I don't upgrade to the Fire. I can't get it here and what I can get is limited. Grrr.

See? And that's Canada, how ridiculous.

That must be it! God, it's so anger-making.
