What kind of cookery is this?..

Loz Cola
I just made the absolute worst meal in a long time. I was so looking forward to it, too, but through the vagaries of my oven being strangely temperamental, my timing being shot, and me not taking enough care with the gravy: this pork roast was no good.

I'd been doing so well at feeding myself up 'til this point, too.

What type of pork roast? I find tenderloin works best if you marinate it first.

Other kinds of pork roast work best if you crust it up before putting it in the oven.

Buy a cheap oven thermometer and find out how far off your oven is.

It was, like, a shoulder of pork (the whole point was to make enough for lunch and dinner tomorrow too.)

My oven is temperamental in that, unbeknownst to me, when the timer finishes, it shuts the whole thing off. I had to crisp the roast up for 20 minutes before turning down the temperature and so I set the timer, did what I needed to, and didn't realise the damn thing had switched off until I went to check on it.

Thank you! I made ice cream and raspberries for dessert as compensation. I say 'make'; read: pulled out of the freezer.

You might want to look your cooker up online if you don't have the instruction booklet. Some cookers, very few of them, have a dual set timer where you can set it to just give an alarm and a different way to switch everything off, like for when you're making meringues.
