LoM Neckless Gene Tired
Can anyone explain to me why so many popular relatively good show creators are complete arseholes? Or if not complete arseholes; 1/2 arseholes and 1/4 arseholes?

I continually find myself liking a writer/creator for a lot of what they do and then hating them for their arrogance, ignorance, and idiocy.

This post brought to you by Jeff Davis, who in so many ways, is not a gift. But also brought to you by Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah, because I just reread my angry posts about A2A 3.06 and 3.07, and was reminded all over again of their dickishness.

Two words: Steven Moffat.

I've decided I won't watch/read any of his interviews anymore, because the guy's sexism pisses me off to no end, and I just want to enjoy his shows without spitting bile. =_=

Yes! Moffat is a prime example. As was Russell T Davies before him.

I started watching Doctor Who right at the time when Eleven arrived, so I have no idea how Russel T Davies was in interviews. Although judging from the fourth Torchwood season, it does look like somewhere along the line he lost his mind.

Prompted by Jeff Davis' recent race fuck-ups, yes?

I feel your pain.

Is it too much to ask that one showrunner not be a failboat in a hundred different ways?

(The best way to address posts about racial issues and privilege, dude, would be to note your mistakes and try to fix them. Not to self-pity-post, then flounce, then pat yourself on the back for casting a POC without the character he plays being noted as a POC. Just. USE YOUR BRAIN. There is a huge difference between making your show "issues of the week" and having the decency of fair representation.)

Because being a better writer than average isn't the same as being a fundamentally better or wiser person, but does mean there's more attention and publicity when they fuck up?

That is a brilliantly diplomatic answer. :D

(But I do find myself wondering if there are any showrunners at all who aren't complete douchebags.)

I'll add David Jacobs to the litany.
