This is another in a long line of Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes fics I have not written. For a while now (since we first heard about Ashes to Ashes), I've imagined a Sam/Alex fic entitled 'A Letter to You on a Cassette' (title from The Whitlams' song 'No Aphrodisiac Like Loneliness', taurenova is cursing my name in 3, 2, 1...) in which Alex falls in love with Sam from his recordings. She listens to his stories and she loves the world he constructs, the characters and scenery and outlandish cases he solves, but she loves him the most. He's funny and intelligent and upstanding and adorable in some of his cluelessness --- with a rich, warm voice that sends shivers down her spine --- and she wonders why she couldn't have met him, why they have to be divided by time and space, and, well, death. The whole idea is that it's this bittersweet story about falling in love with/grieving over an ideal, about coping with a life lost.
Reason(s) for not having written: It's sort of too depressing, even for me. And then, in S1 A2A, I hated Alex, so the impetus to write there was lost. And then I just always find myself writing S/G, whenever I write Life on Mars fic at all.
