Day 22 - Favorite series finale

I honestly don’t know. It seems to me my favourite shows either end badly or never get to end properly at all. Now, if it meant series as I usually say it - as in ‘season’ - I’d be happier and could probably rattle off a couple (BSG series 1 comes to mind, as does the conclusion to Psych’s third and fourth series), but this is an American meme, so I know it doesn’t.

Ooh. OOOH! Just thought of one. Blackadder Goes Forth, for the amazing emotional impact it astonishingly invokes. You’re there, amusedly watching the same old Blackadder, tittering at foolish wit and stock characters, and then suddenly it becomes this all too real, all too gut-punching force. It’s brilliantly constructed and subtley done and so very unexpected (it shouldn’t be, you know it’s coming, you just don’t expect it to hurt.) Yes. Masterful.

I have to agree with you over BGF. No matter how many times we watch it (and we've watched the series a lot of times!) it always brings a lump to my throat. Excellent choice for day 22 ♥

I've only seen it the once, but I was just looking through my DVDs (that are sadly stowed in a box because there is no shelf space in this house) for a rewatch :D

Hee, I usually say "season" when referring to US or Canadian shows and "series" when I am referring to ones from the UK or Australia or some other areas. It does cause me mental confusion (probably more from my own fibromyalgia-related cognitive problems than anything else) as my American mind will default to thinking "season" or "series finale". Which is why I usually end up typing something like "S1" or "S2".

Oh, yes, S1 of BSG was awesome. Eh, after that, so much hit-or-miss. I ended up hating it, though I did finally make myself watch the final episodes.

Exactly! "Blackadder Goes Forth" is amazing.

As far as other UK shows go, I have to say I do adore the ending to Spaced. Many of my favourite US shows have great endings, even if they had previous seasons that were crappy. Of course, I quite predictably went with The Wire, which despite having a final season that was bit off, ended with a finale that was fitting for both the fans and the series, itself.

I reacted the same way with BSG. I liked it mostly up until series 3, although I notice when I read my responses that there were a few in S2 I wasn't so keen on. It's weird to think it used to be one of my very favourite shows, 'cause I grew to really hate it.

I still haven't seen The Wire. It's on my ever increasing list.

Ooh. That is a really great pick. That one really does move me every time I see it. Brilliantly done.

Isn't it, though?

:D Trust us both to adore something unremittingly bleak ;)

That's one I actually considered for mine. Brilliantly written, acted, directed. Just the starkness of it. Amazing.

What did you end up going with?

The end of a soap opera I used to watch called Edge of Night.
