Psych (Shawn Mocks)
Obligatory Psych Series 4 post...

Ray Wise is a priest! Love it!

This episode was written by one of the Scrubs writers. And it shows. Shawn is much more J.D-like in this episode. And okay, so he's had J.D-ish moments before. But here it's so, so obvious. I feel like Roday mainlined all seven series of the show and decided to do a Zach Braff impression --- only pitching it so he's marginally less annoying. (Also, I swear the picture they show of Shawn and Gus cheek to cheek is a direct copy of a shot of J.D and Turk.)

I was slightly turned on when Shawn and Gus were about to fight. I think this proves how twisted my ideal relationship dynamics are. Snarky friendship? Oh, yes, please. Punching? Yay! They're so in love!

"Oooh, let me guess. Relationship trouble."

"Yeah. I hate it when we fight."

"I'm sure she feels the same way."

"I'm not talking about Abigail, I mean Gus."

"So am I." = AMAZING! EEEE! I love Henry.

Simon Baker reference! HAHAHAHA!

... wrong in your weenie?

I want to know what Shawn confessed when he was 16.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode. The whole Shawn ever having gone to Sunday School thing didn't really ring true for me, although I'll admit there's probably been references to that before that I've ignored. Shawn was a bit of a jerk in this episode, but apart from how he treated Lucy's mother, I mostly liked him. And I especially liked that a lot of the episode was about Shawn and Gus' love.

Loved the Lassie and Shawn ear scene.

Got a kick out of the Simon Baker reference as well.

I didn't even notice Shawn fiddling with Lassiter's ears.

I am loving all the Mentalist digs this series.

There was a Simon Baker reference???

I loved the Shawn in Sunday school reference... Reminded me much of myself at boarding school... The teachers didn't do well with my questions the Bible... :p

Yeah, Shawn said something about not wanting to miss Simon Baker in some show that was, surprisingly, not The Mentalist.

Wow, that Scrubs explanation was so what I needed, because I definitely felt like Shawn was sort of--he kinda rubbed me the wrong way, so to speak. Like, he just seemed like he wasn't having fun out there. Which, I guess, he wasn't, in that he didn't want to take the case. But mostly I miss his energy from the earlier seasons--even my husband thought he seemed subdued.

It was still funny though--I hope the next episode has more awesome lines in it! Looks promising. Also, Lassie looks aMAzing in his softball uniform.

Yeah, me neither--it seemed odd to me that they would have him go to Sunday school because I wouldn't have assumed that his family would be Catholic, or especially religious. But, maybe it was something they enrolled him to keep him out of trouble, and because Gus' parents came up with the idea. :)

A lot of people are saying Shawn seems subdued, but I thought he also seemed subdued and/or assholish in the first three episodes of S3 (quieter voice, more overtly serious moments, a surface level of cruelty), so maybe it's a 'Roday needs to warm up to fiendishly over the TOP' thing? I definitely feel like over the years he's been gradually toning down the physical comedy, though. Which is a shame, because one of the things I love about Psych is that it incorporates multiple senses of humour: jokes anyone will get, jokes 0.02% of the population will get, witty word jokes, visual jokes, recurring jokes, and yes, physical comedy.

Plus, it feels like as soon as they brought Madeline back and gave Shawn the explanation he needed but didn't want to accept regarding his parents/Henry, Shawn as a character has lost a small part of his childish enthusiasm --- so now I'm beginning to wonder if that was all a front to begin with.

But then I realise that, once again, I'm analysing Psych.

I really wouldn't have thought that Henry or Madeline would be Roman Catholic, so I like your interpretation.

*weeeeee smiley*

And, "bum bum bum... muffin."

Hulu is the greatest thing ever! (Who needs cable?) Although they took down 4.1 before I could get to it so I haven't seen it, and they take, like, 8 days to put up new episodes but that's better than a year for the dvds! Anyway, just watched this episode and had to come see your post on it, yay!!!

Doesn't the official website work for you?!

It does, but it seems to only have the same episodes Hulu has, and Hulu's video quality actually seems slightly better, strangely enough.
