To be honest, I kind of OTP in only one fandom, and even then not conventionally.

But! Paramount, there is Life on Mars's Sam/Gene, which I'm sure shocks everyone who's had a passing glance at this journal. Merlin/Arthur in Merlin are a couple I somehow vehemently ship to the exclusion of most others. And John/Aeryn in Farscape (though, on rewatch, I seem to also be shipping John/D'Argo. Which surprises me.)

I'd be interested in your answer to number 9???

Hmmm. Pre-emptively, the majority of Supernatural fandom made it easy not to doubt my decision to avoid the show like the plague. I know a few lovely SPN fans, but there are some people in that fandom who scare the crap out of me. I fell out of love with Harry Potter because I spent way too much time analysing the books on www.cosforums.com. That wasn't other people so much as myself, though.

I'm really one of those people who tends to enjoy fannish exuberance even if I don't share it. If I don't like a fannish climate, I simply avoid it. I'm fannish about plenty of shows I'm not actually in the fandom for. So, I would say there hasn't been an instance of me being in a fandom and then finding that fandom affect my enjoyment of the fannish source.

Number 5, please! :)

Oh, man. :D

So, back in my Harry Potter days, I helped popularise the idea of Snape wearing fuzzy bat slippers within a small faction of the forums I used to frequent.

There's Sam/Mobile in Life on Mars, of course. Which will forever be my true OTP for the fandom. Sam as a serial killer is a kind of crack, though written seriously. I'd like to think I've unduly influenced Life on Mars fandom in lots of little ways, though not all of them stupid, cracktacular or hilarious. I'd kind of always hoped more people would write stories about a Borrower-sized Gene, but alas, I was the only one.

Ooh, #23!

Life on Mars: Sam Tyler.
Farscape: D'Argo. Do not get me wrong, I LOVE everyone else too, but D'Argo somehow sneaked past my defences and became my most favourite.
Merlin: Arthur. With Merlin as a very close second. I just seem to find Arthur's brand of idiocy endearing.
Teen Wolf: Stiles
Futurama Philip J. Fry. It's that endearing idiocy thing again. :D

D'ARGO! I had the same response to him.

D'Argo is.... GUH. What an awesome big, powerful, sensitive darling.

Fannishness in general is what I'd like to ramble about, I think. I love fans being fannish! Even if I don't care about what they're talking about, I love seeing the exuberance and joy expressed by fans at the peak of their love. As long as people aren't spamming communities, I tend to be sitting here just as gleeful. I'm a firm believer in fandom's main purpose being fun. And while I'm very much into social justice and don't love unquestioning adoration of problematic texts, I mostly don't want to drag myself or others down with going overboard in those issues. If I find something objectionable in that way, I think it's better to step away.

Number 12!

This is terribly vain, but it's actually a scene in one of my own fics I'd love to see. It would have to be digital art, I think. I don't know if you've read Palimpsest but there's a scene where all the overlapping times come together and Sam sees echoes of himself trailing a second or two before or after him. I always imagined the scene from the side, with the echoes as being pale/translucent/green-tinged versions of Sam, a couple overlapped by him, with one or two wearing different clothes because he wasn't going to follow 'the script' on those occasions. Alas, there weren't many fanartists when I wrote Palimpsest, and no one's offered commissions. :/

Because you love song titles, 15!
30th-Aug-2012 09:25 am (UTC)
Hee! Song lyric/song title titles are definitely my thing, but I promise they always have relevance. I have done this 2 ways.

1. Shuffled my music playlist: OK Go's Needing/Getting - Fatalistic Sam/Gene from Life on Mars, has to be ;) (But there ain't much that's dumber. There ain't much that's dumber. Than pinning your hopes on a change in another.)

2. Deliberately picked one: Robyn's Indestructible - Tony/Bruce for The Avengers. Not that they're my OTP, but they are other people's! ( I'm gonna love you like I've never been hurt before. I'm gonna love you like I'm indestructible. Your love is ultra magnetic and it's taking over.)

Give me #21, Loz!

Ooh. I have a few that are near and dear to my heart. I still don't think I've written anything as close to what I wanted since Palimpsest. I actually really enjoy my latest long form fic I Intend to be Independently Blue in Teen Wolf fandom. And Changes was my wish-fulfillment porn.

So. I tend to like my longer fics that do what I want them to do :D
